25 YEARS OF OVERLANDING EXHILIRATION WITH JOHAN BADENHORST

The renowned explorer, writer, producer and businessman, Johan Badenhorst was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, on 22 October, 1959.

Now at the age of 65 Johan has travelled the African continent so extensively that it would be difficult to find anyone who could equal his experience and knowledge in the field.

With 18 major expeditions completed, he has seen 78 different countries, travelled over 450 000 km, completed 5 trans-continental journeys, sat atop the summit of 3 of the highest peaks on the African continent namely Kilimanjaro, Mount Kenya, and The Ruwenzori’s, and has written and published 13 books of the 18 Voetspore expeditions.

As the creator of "Voetspore" (meaning footprints) Johan has left his track (his 'voetspore') on more than 70 countries, 41 of which are on the African continent.

Visited the Danakil, hottest place on the continent (summer temperature in excess of 50 degrees Celsius), as well as the lowest point on the continent – Lac Assal in Djibouti (155 meter below sea level.)
Visited the mysterious cities of Timbuktu, Atar, Fez, Lalibela and Harar
Joined the Arc of the Covenant Procession in Aksum
Visited the Source of the White Nile in Burundi, and the Source of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia, as well as the confluence at Khartoum

Travelled along the Zambezi from Source to Sea
Spend 28 days on a barge on the Congo River, from Kisangani to Kinshasa.
Went gorilla tracking in Uganda, chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda and experience the migration of the wildebeest in East Africa numerous times.
Toured Madagascar in three months with a team of six in three Land Cruisers.
Circumnavigated India on a Royal Enfield in three months.
Over a period of three years(2022-2024), Johan visited all independent countries in South America by Land Cruiser
Travelled with the Trans Siberia Express from Saint Petersburg to Vladivostok
Wrote 13 books – 2 books on safari cooking on the road, and 11 about his global travels
Regular contributor to various magazines and newspapers such as Leisure Wheels, Weg/Go, Rapport
Owner of the Voetspore 4x4 Fitment Centre in Pretoria and Somerset West, an internet shop, a self-drive guided tour safari business, operating in Southern Africa and voetsporeTV, a pay channel, featuring, amongst others, the videos of the 18 Voetspore expeditions and other expeditions.
